Another lifetime ago (Novemeber) I traveled to West Palm Beach to do the flowers for a wedding reception.
We set up camp in a villa that belonged to a friend of the mother of the bride. The small complex seemed to be built in the 1930s or 40s and was nearly encased in vines and tropical plants and flowers, with a pool and a little path that lead to the Atlantic. I could drink my morning coffee on the balcony. From my bed I could hear the ocean. It was really something special.

Not having spent much time in Florida before, I now understand why people flock there. It's lush, beyond. The vines seemed on the verge of conquering every surface, everywhere. The sun of California but the jungle of Central America. The slowness of the South. It took me by surprise how quickly I was taken with it and even still, I wouldn't mind being back there now.
florida is quite beautiful. i wouldn't mind being there myself.
ReplyDeletethe flowers are simply lovely. as is this post :))

ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I'm having fun with disposable cameras these days.
ReplyDeleteLove your POV. The photos are gorgeous. I'm in California, in the midst of some spectacular weather, but these photos still bring up some envy.
ReplyDeleteI saw in your instagram feed you went to Vizcaya in Miami? I love that place. I hope you were able to see Whitehall too in Palm Beach. I'm beyond a sucker for a mansion done right.

ReplyDeleteOh Amy, you tease! It looks and sounds like heaven!
ReplyDeletelove the photos. you are very creative girl...:)
ReplyDeleteyou always make me dream
ReplyDeleteabout life itself somehow;
in its most beautiful way..
thank you for that !
lovely photos. You make me miss home...rust lilies and those hanging orchids. My grandmother used to have those from her trees in the front yard.
ReplyDeleteI love that odd jumble of hanging plants. And are those peachy flowers begonias? I adore them.
ReplyDeleteFlorida most definitely has its quirks, especially South Florida, but these photos are amazing. It makes me miss it a lot. (I live in North Florida now and although the vegetation is awesome, it's not quite the same). Great photos.
ReplyDeleteSplendid, beautiful pics! Florida is gorgeous.. and of course..warm. I'm missing bright skies these days. But we have some quite lush vegetation here in OR too! :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Amy! Perfect perfect post for my own departure for the sunshine state tomorrow, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLemons, limes, cumquats, twigs and beautiful blossoms - love this Amy. Your work is divine.
ReplyDeleteThose arrangements are so unique and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the hanging plants. Such a pretty post. Peaches & greens. Makes me feel like winter won't last forever :)
ReplyDeletebrilliant compositions, amy. just perfect. your work continues to leave me in awe! xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful,so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI was just in West Palm Beach about a month ago. It blew me away...the homes, the ocean, the flora. All simply beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing these shots.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos as always! I used to live in Florida, and I can't even describe how much I miss it sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI have a handful of family members in Tampa who are so trashy and embody every bad stereotype about Florida that I often forget how lush and beautiful it can be there. I just picture rednecks on their jet skis holding a beer and my great aunt's hot pink 3" fake nails.
ReplyDeleteKate, it's true. I was a little wary having not spent much time there. But the little nooks where we stayed were so nice. Beautiful and fancy and unlike a lot of Florida, I think.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are a much needed bit of light in my life today considering Northern IL is buried under a lot of snow and I'm finding myself missing the south more and more all the time. This place you visited looks amazingly beautiful. I'd like to go there.
ReplyDeleteoh, this is so very pretty. that first photo is to die for.
ReplyDeleteWe are in Florida!! As new bloggers and retro-inspired artists, we really enjoyed your photos! We too find ourselves continually snapping shots of the beautiful flora here. You've inspired us to delve into our blogging - thank you!
ReplyDeleteThese photographs are so intimately beautiful. I shoot with film all the time and you have inspired me to pick up a disposable camera, something I have not done since high school. Sometimes the simplest and cheapest tool can be better than the nicest medium format beast.
ReplyDeleteI love gardening so thanks for sharing fantastic and colorful photos for gardening. I love this all garden photograph. Thanks for sharing amazing information.
ReplyDeleteAmazing blog, your photos are really lovely!
ReplyDeleteThat first photo is beautiful! I saw it on Pinterest and the first thing I thought was "this looks like Florida."
